PATRIOT TRANSPORTATION HOLDING, INC. ANNOUNCES ISH COPLEY WILL BE RETIRING AS PRESIDENT OF SUNBELT TRANSPORT, INC.

Jacksonville, Florida; September 30, 2002 - Patriot Transportation Holding, Inc. (NASDQ-PATR) announced today that Ish Copley will be retiring as President of SunBelt Transport, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary. SunBelt Transport, Inc. is engaged in the hauling by flatbed truck of primarily construction products throughout the eastern half of the United States. Mr. Copley retires after an extraordinarily distinguished career within the flatbed and truck load sectors of the nation's trucking industry. His expertise, good judgement and long experience will be missed within Patriot.

Mr. Copley's son, Rick Copley will become President of SunBelt Transport effective October 1, 2002. The younger Mr. Copley brings almost 30 years of flatbed trucking experience to his new responsibility. Rick Copley is a graduate of Jacksonville University.

Patriot Transportation Holding, Inc. is engaged in the transportation and real estate businesses. Its primary operating transportation subsidiaries are Florida Rock & Tank Lines, Inc., a Southeastern transportation company concentrating in the hauling by motor carrier of liquid and dry bulk commodities; SunBelt Transport, Inc., which serves the flatbed portion of the Southeastern trucking industry and Patriot Transportation, Inc. which concentrates on the third-party agent/owner-operator segment of the industry.
